Proprioception - Joint Position SenseJoint position sense (cervical proprioception) is disturbed in patients with chronic neck pain, whiplash and functional disturbances. With Clinicbuddy, Joint Position Sense can be measured quickly and easily. What is Head Reposition Error? When patients have disturbances in proprioception, due to chronic pain or injury, it becomes difficult to perceive the position of the head and neck in space. To test this, the patient is blindfolded and then asked to perform a series of movements (maximal flexion, extension and rotation) returning to center after each movement. Without the help of vision, the patient must 'feel' their way back to center, using the proprioceptive information provided by the joints of the neck. Clinicbuddy makes it possible to automatically measure(to the millimeter) how far the patient deviates from the original position after each movement. People with proprioceptive disturbances, such as whiplash, have a greater degree of head reposition error.
